The University of Salford has a new opportunity for a Specialist Student Adviser to join our team of existing advisers in the Student Support Team. The role of the Specialist Student Adviser is to provide a range of services, including advice and support, to stakeholders including, students, staff and families of current and prospective students. The role will include providing advice face to face, by telephone, via email and in the askUS Referral Lounge. The ideal candidate will have strong customer service skills and an interest in student finance and funding.

Student Support is made up of teams providing specialist advice and support to students at the University, including the Money Advice & Funds Service, with the aim of providing a holistic and inclusive offer of support services. The core function of the Money Advice & Funds Service is to support University of Salford students to overcome the financial barriers our students may experience to study through the provision of advice, support and administration of funds granted to students experiencing financial hardship.

The service operates between 8am and 6pm. The location of an adviser’s role is blended, spending some days in office at Peel Park campus and others working from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist advice to customers and team members on student funding, hardship funds, accommodation, inclusive support targeted at students who are care experienced, estranged, carers, sanctuary seekers, LGBTQI*. Keep up to date with knowledge on all services delivered in the askUS services portfolio.
  • Coordinate student cases and enquiry handling activity, including managing a case load, drafting responses to complaints and complex enquiries, and supporting the assessments for University hardship schemes using numerical calculations, supported by guidance
  • Be the first point of contact for askUS Student Advisers with questions, enquiries and complex student cases using listening, analytical, decision-making and coaching skills to help find the right solution
