About the role

The Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering is seeking a motivated, highly organised and people oriented Senior Programmes Manager. 

The Senior Programmes Manager is a key role, leading programme administration staff in the faculty and responsible for effective delivery of education support for taught programmes in the faculty.  They contribute to the development and delivery of faculty educational aims as well as supporting the wider university strategy and vision.

The role works very closely with academic and professional services colleagues in the faculty and across the university, to support staff, enhance and improve process, and leads on a range of projects across taught programme delivery activities in support of student and staff in a period of change. 

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed-term contract until 29 May 2026.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  • Substantial administrative experience gained within an HE environment, preferably with a focus on taught programme delivery.
  • Experience of developing innovative solutions and practical implementation for strategic change.
  • Experience of managing projects and managing change.
  • Experience of translating complex regulations, processes and information in suitable formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Proactive and authentic approach to leadership, strong experience of line management and creating high performing teams, including motivating staff, performance management and maintaining a positive, proactive culture of continual review and development.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including building networks, and influencing and negotiating with stakeholders across organisational boundaries to deliver a timely positive outcome diplomatically.
  • Proven ability to use initiative, prioritise workloads and respond positively to situations arising at short notice in a busy environment.
  • Advanced IT skills with particular reference to database use, reporting and the Microsoft Office suite of programmes.

Desirable criteria

  • Education to degree level
  • Good knowledge of issues facing students in Higher Education
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
