We believe that when students come together, they can shape the communities they are part of for the better. In the Students' Union, through our student leaders and elected representatives we grow and support communities of students as they provide opportunities for others and change the world around us for the better.
The Democracy & Change Manager will work with our student officers, staff and representatives to make sure that we have transparent and effective mechanisms for students to shape their student experience and the world around them; whether that’s through change making activities such as our Top Ten issues, supporting student to run campaigns or protests, lobbying of MPs, or helping our Community Organisers address key issues for our community.
About us
Our Student Voice team work with students to drive student issues, celebrate good practice and work with key stakeholders to co-create an outstanding student journey. We want our student leaders as the societal leaders of tomorrow to be experts in the practice of citizenship and in leading communities for positive change
This role is responsible for oversight and development of our democratic activity to ensure it is fair, equitable and undertaken with high attention to detail. This includes elections, referenda, and supporting our student Summit to make and deliver Standpoints (political policies). As Democracy & Change Manager, this role will be looking at ways of engaging diverse student communities and supporting them to make changes on the issues that matter to them.
About you
We are looking for an individual with an interest in political activity, supporting democratic processes and empowering others to make positive change and share their views. You will have great people skills, enabling you to work with our diverse community and make strong connections to support students change-making and community organising activities. Excellent communication skills are a priority in this role, working with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will have a great understanding of EDI principles and the ability to support our under-represented communities to share their voices. We are looking for someone with excellent organisation skills and strong attention to detail to ensure our processes are delivered at a high standard and compliant with policies, and has creative and innovate approaches to ensure ongoing development.
