We are committed to providing opportunities for all and have been transforming lives in London and further afield for over 120 years. We are part of a diverse group comprising London South Bank University, University Academies and Colleges and an enterprise centre. We take pride in the value that our degree programmes add, the employability and success of our graduates and the impact of our world-leading applied research.
To build on our strengths and position us best for future success, we are currently undergoing an academic re-shaping exercise, which involves combining eight schools of study into three Colleges, each with three or four Schools within them. This will facilitate enhanced strategic leadership across related subject areas, promote synergies between teaching and research, and provide a strong platform for sustainable growth.
We are now seeking a Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, one of three Schools within the College of Health and Life Sciences. The School has over 150 staff and approx. 3,000 students, and it operates across all three of LSBU’s London campuses. The course portfolio aims to develop nursing and midwifery gradates who are fit for the current workforce in the NHS, private/independent sector or in academia. With a grant from the Office for Students, the School is in the third year of a major project to redesign and upgrade its simulation and skills facilities at the Southwark Campus to support ongoing innovations in its curricula.
The new Head will work with the School and wider University community to celebrate our strengths and achievements and help forge an ambitious path forward. They will drive the strategy and overall progress of the School, working with colleagues to develop and maintain excellence across both teaching/learning and research and playing a central role in relations with external partners. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences, they will sit on the College Senior Leadership Team.
Ideal candidates will be able to understand and nurture our history, our diversity and our distinctiveness. They will have a track record of providing effective and transformational leadership in a multi-disciplinary environment, with analytical skills and the ability to think broadly and strategically. Evidence of a substantial academic management track record and involvement in curriculum development is crucial. Candidates will be skilled communicators, with the ability to take people with them, and experience of working through influence.
The successful candidate will be a champion and advocate for the positive contribution the School and University make as a civic university. Equally, they will share our values and have the ability to engender an inclusive and respectful culture.
