About Us

Based at our Stratford campus in the newly formed Office of the Health Campus, our service supports the collaboration of UEL’s innovative research and teaching within the School of Health, Sport and Bioscience. The school have a successful and expanding portfolio of accredited taught programmes and exciting new postgraduate programmes on offer.  Our team ensures that students enrolled in these courses are Industry 5.0 employer-ready, by providing a service that is future focused, efficient and has sustainability principles at its core.

About the Job

We are seeking to appoint a Medical Sciences Laboratory Manager to support the Technical Support Manager in providing highest quality, multi-specialist technical expertise and support to students, staff and external partners and coordinate technical resources for the provision of high quality support for teaching, research and enterprise activity. To carry out the day to day management of a small team of staff, support practical classes, student project work, workshops, research and income generation activities. The post holder will play a central role in the maintenance and operation of teaching and research laboratories including associated facilities in accordance with current Health and Safety regulations.

About You

You will have a good honours degree in a Bioscience or Biomedical subject, ideally supported by relevant postgraduate study.  A Health & Safety, or management qualification would be advantageous, as well as achievement of Professional Membership or Chartered status in a relevant area.

You will have demonstrable experience in a Bioscience laboratory or research environment with experience and practical knowledge of a wide range of laboratory techniques such as microbiology, immunology, histology, cellular pathology, molecular biology, cell biology, pharmaceutical sciences/pharmacology or other related academic areas.  You will have experience in management or supervision of staff within a UK laboratory setting, and have a solid understanding of health and safety work practices and its implementation.  

You will have excellent organisation and communication skills, commitment to customer service, be a good team player, willing to work flexibly to changing timetables and work patterns and have a drive for excellence in everything that you do.
