The role

The University of Bristol Business School invites applications for the position of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance. This is a permanent position, subject to review (tenure track). 

Applications are sought from candidates with a PhD in Finance or a related field, and with expertise in any area of finance. Successful candidates will demonstrate a track record or potential for outstanding research and will be undertaking innovative work that complements and extends the School’s existing research and teaching activities.

What will you be doing?

You will be involved in a range of research and education activities in the newly formed Business School. In particular, you will: 

  • Undertake research leading to publications in high quality international journals in the field of finance and/or related disciplines.
  • Undertake teaching and assessment on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, contributing to curriculum development, course design, and the development and delivery of learning materials.
  • Act as personal tutor to undergraduate and/or postgraduate students.
  • Supervise dissertations at the postgraduate level.
  • Make a wider contribution to the success of the University through your participation in Faculty and University-wide governance and development activities.
  • Undertake other administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Academic Group.

You should apply if

  • You hold or are close to completing a PhD in Finance or a related field.
  • Have research and teaching expertise in one or more of the sub-fields of finance, including asset pricing, banking, or corporate finance.
  • You have an aptitude for teaching to the highest standards at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • You are capable of taking initiative to improve students’ learning.
  • You can evidence excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • You have the ability to contribute effectively to the administration and management of the School and Faculty.
