About the role

We are seeking a skilled Research Assistant (Data Officer) to join our team at the University of Leicester’s School of Archaeology and Ancient History, contributing to the AHRC-funded Many New Worlds project. You will play a pivotal role in developing and managing a relational database that integrates new and legacy data, ensuring sustainability beyond the project’s duration.

In this role, you will coordinate the project’s data management plan, working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure interoperability with existing platforms in the UK and Caribbean. You will also support the research team by participating in fieldwork, organising data, coordinating work packages, and contributing to the preparation of publications. This position offers an excellent opportunity to engage in innovative data management solutions while contributing to impactful research on a global stage.

The position requires occasional travel, including extended periods in the Caribbean and elsewhere, to facilitate fieldwork and data collection. With guidance from the Principal Investigator, you will manage your work independently while also engaging in regular collaboration with colleagues and external partners to ensure the project’s success.

About you

To excel in this role, you will have a degree in Archaeology, Digital Humanities, or a related field, along with experience designing and managing relational databases. Your strong analytical and data management skills will be complemented by a proven ability to apply research techniques and deliver high-quality outputs.

We value a collaborative and proactive team member who can effectively manage tasks and priorities while demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience in data interoperability and a commitment to continuous professional development are essential.
