About the Role

For informal enquiries, please contact Adrian Seymour (Technical and Facilities Manager) at Adrian.seymour@warwick.ac.uk.

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Senior Water Technician to design, assemble, manage, maintain and run a wide range of technical and research equipment with a focus on Water Engineering research. This also encompasses the planning and implementing of changes to infrastructure and equipment, plus the development of new processes and techniques in conjunction with academics.

The role is very interactive and involves communicating and working alongside a wide range of personnel within the Engineering department, including academic staff, PhD and Undergraduate students, and other technicians. Liaison with external companies and organisations to facilitate materials and equipment maintenance is also required.

This is a new post within an established technicians’ team in a busy department.

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.

About You

You will need a minimum of HNC/HND in an engineering discipline for this role, plus have previous experience in the training and guidance of students. An understanding of Health and Safety legislation, standards and procedures is essential, whilst a NEBOSH certificate is desirable.

Your technical skills will encompass the design, construction and maintenance of test rigs, plus the safe operation of slinging cranes. You will also need to be numerical and have previous experience in data collection, including the use of digital tools within this, plus the maintenance of accurate records. You will have excellent budget awareness with ability to identify and obtain quotations for new equipment and raise purchase orders.

Alongside your technical ability, your effective soft skills allow you to communicate, build relationships, and work harmoniously both with and alongside a wide range of colleagues, Academics and students both internal and external to the University. At project conception you will need to consult with academics and stakeholders to identify the support requirements for technical resources, training, tooling and equipment needs and give informed advice. You may also need to lead, guide and mentor those with a lower level of technical knowledge, including supervising Engineering Apprentices or lower grade Engineering Technicians.

This is a very busy environment, and you must have strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to work on your own initiative, manage a small team/project, coordinate multiple projects with flexibility and deliver within deadlines to meet key milestones.

For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description.

CLOSING DATE: Monday 06 January 2025 at 11.55 pm
