The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr (UKH) is the first and only public, English-medium, and independent University in Iraq. The University was founded in 2006 by the current President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, His Excellency Nechirvan Barzani. It is dedicated to being the region’s leading centre of excellence in research and teaching and is committed to the dissemination and application of knowledge to further the industrial, economic, cultural, environmental and social development of the region.
Over the past fifteen years it has grown to over 2,200 students and around 180 staff. Through a cadre of highly motivated and internationally trained and recognised academic and research staff, UKH provides research training (MSc’s and PhD’s) and generates research that will advance knowledge and inform policy and decision makers in the region.
Hence, research at UKH focuses on and engages in promoting and supporting sustainable development and responding to market needs in the region and beyond.
The School of Social Sciences (SSS) is one of four schools at UKH and is home to a cohesive team of faculty members with strong academic credentials and extensive experience. Since its inception, the goal of the School of Social Sciences (SSS) has been to prepare students to become leaders of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, but also to understand and meet the challenges of our globalised world.
The English Language Department is one of departments in SSS and offers three degree programmes, two at the undergraduate level and the other at the postgraduate level - BA in English, BA in English and Foreign Languages (German, French, Russian, Italian and Spanish) and at the postgraduate level the department offers two streams; the MA in Applied Linguistics/TESOL or the MA in English Literature.

The role holder will contribute to the success and the growth of the School, especially in the areas of specialisation.
The level of appointment will be dependent on qualifications and experience and will be based on the University’s criteria for academic rank.
