The James Watt School of Engineering is looking for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the new technologies for in-space manufacturing, building on our recent advances. Involving both modelling and experiment, the work will support the development of in-space manufacturing technologies and build laboratory-scale demonstrators. You will also support other aspects of our programme of research on Emerging Space Technologies.
The project is part of a long-term programme of research associated with Professor McInnes' Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies. The programme of research is devising, developing and demonstrating a range of exciting new space technologies for the future. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research proposals, as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging programme of research as opportunities allow. Lecturing, undergraduate/postgraduate project supervision and PhD co-supervision duties are associated with the post.
The Emerging Space Technologies programme is embedded within the Space and Exploration Technology Group (SET) and will use the facilities of the Integrated Space and Exploration Technology Laboratory (I-SET) and the Emerging Space Technologies Laboratory. The SET group comprises a broad range of expertise across access to space, orbital dynamics, emerging space technologies, entry, descent and landing and planetary exploration technologies. The I-SET laboratory hosts a range of facilities for technology development and demonstration including a Helmholtz cage, 3D printers and a clean assembly area.
