The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering is seeking to appoint an electronic technician who will provide technical and operational support through the electronic and electrical workshop. The Department has an international reputation for teaching and research, and is one of the premier departments in the UK. Our strong partnerships with Government, Industry and a variety of global research agencies ensure the industrial applicability of our courses and our research outputs, and enable us to provide our students with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities.

Applications are invited for an Electronic Technician to join a team within the Department, providing specialist electronic technical support for the Department’s diverse research portfolio, and undergraduate/post graduate projects and teaching laboratories.

To be considered for the role you will be educated to a minimum of HNC level in Electronic and Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline, or you will have completed a recognised apprenticeship in addition to having relevant experience in an engineering workshop environment. You must have knowledge and experience of analogue/digital electronic design, with the ability to fault find and debug problems, often to component level. You will have a strong customer focus and a logical, analytic, systematic and creative approach to solving complex problems. You will have an ability to prioritise your own workload as well as others’, as required, and you will have excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders. You will have experience of supervising and mentoring junior colleagues and apprentices in electronic techniques and good working practises. You will have an understanding of the relevant Health and Safety regulations and will demonstrate the ability to work both as part of a team or autonomously.

Candidates must have the ability to undertake a degree of physical effort e.g. lifting/carrying, cleaning, and the ability to work with some exposure to an unfavourable working environment, e.g. exposure to chemicals, heat, dust or detergents and have good safety awareness in general working environments.
