The University of Kent Counselling team is looking to recruit to our pool of Sessional Counsellors providing hourly paid support to students.
Pay band: £29.98 per hour.
Sessional Counsellors provide short term confidential counselling to students experiencing mental health difficulties or emotional distress in order to support retention, academic achievement and progression. Ideally the post holder will draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities such as short-term integrative counselling, person-centred counselling, or cognitive behavioural therapy.
The role will involve the assessment of students for suitability for counselling and close liaison with other support services within the University and the University Medical Centre where signposting or onward referral is required. The post holder will be required to be accredited with an appropriate professional body or be able to demonstrate relevant clinical experience for the role.
We are looking for counsellors who can demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with appropriate communication and interpersonal skills in order to deal with a wide variety of issues.
In order to ensure the counselling team is representative of the student body at Kent, we strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of the issues and challenges faced by people from the Black African, Caribbean and Asian community.
Please note that our preference is for the post holder to be able to travel to our campus in Canterbury, although we will consider applicants who can offer remote counselling sessions as well. We are looking for the successful candidate to be able to commit to 10 hours per week term time only. The days of working can be agreed with the line manager prior to commencing the role and reviewed each term but we do ask that you work a minimum 5 hours a day during term time
