The School of Human Sciences, University of Greenwich, is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on a 31-month UKRI funded project to investigate multilingual primary school children’s understanding of inferences in English listening and reading comprehension. The role is offered on a fixed term contract basis from January 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

Under the supervision of the Co-I (Dr Alessandra Valentini – University of Greenwich) and the PI (Prof. Ludovica Serratrice – University of Reading) the postholder’s duties will include all aspects of running a quantitative study to assess multilingual primary school children’s language skills in English – with a specific focus on their ability to make inferences in spoken and written texts.

The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively as part of a team, liaise with the partner school in Newham (East London) and any other primary schools in the London area that will be recruited to the project.

A degree in psycholinguistics, psychology, or a related area, quantitative research methods and advanced statistics skills, project management experience, previous experience with recruiting and testing primary school children, and the ability to work independently and effectively within a research team are essential.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview. Informal enquiries may be made to the University of Greenwich based Co-Investigator Dr Alessandra Valentini (a.valentini@greenwich.ac.uk) and the Principal Investigator, Prof. Ludovica Serratrice (l.serratrice@reading.ac.uk).
