The role
As the Head of External Estates, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and managing the University’s external environment. You will be responsible for overseeing the operational delivery of a large, biodiverse estate, ensuring it meets world-class standards.
Your leadership will be essential in driving sustainability, enhancing biodiversity, and maintaining the University's natural landscape. This includes managing resources, staff, and partnerships to ensure effective service delivery while contributing to the University's strategic objectives, such as carbon reduction and improving the campus experience for students, staff, and the wider community.
What will you be doing?
In this role, you will lead the management of the University’s expansive natural and urban estates, ensuring high operational standards and cost-effective service delivery. A unique opportunity has developed for an enthusiastic, specification-focused leader to oversee a skilled team, manage resources, and ensure health and safety compliance across all outdoor spaces, including landscaped external realms, farm, forest, Botanic Garden, and well-being spaces.
Your work will involve developing plans that underpin efficient operations, enhancing biodiversity, sustainability, and recreational opportunities while aligning with the University’s carbon reduction goals. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with stakeholders and drive continuous improvement to support the University’s long-term environmental and operational objectives.
You should apply if
Have significant experience in managing large, biodiverse estates, delivering change programmes and are passionate about sustainability, and environmental management.
You should possess strong leadership skills, a background in horticulture or landscape management, and a proven ability to drive strategic initiatives within complex environments.
