Background
The University has a long tradition in Civil Engineering and has always been involved in industry relevant experimental research. The Department of Civil Engineering delivers undergraduate courses in civil and structural engineering and MSc courses in civil engineering structures, construction management and temporary works.
Responsibilities
The School Technical Support Team is seeking an engineering technician, to provide technical engineering support. This post will be primarily based in the Civil Engineering Department, which includes the school’s undergraduate engineering science laboratories. The successful candidate will provide technical support to a range of teaching and research areas and will interact with staff and students at all levels, from undergraduates to doctoral research students. Activities will include the maintenance and preparation of equipment for research and teaching in addition to the manufacture of equipment.
Person Specification
Candidates should possess at least a BTEC NC/HNC or equivalent certificate with demonstrable experience in laboratory and experimental work. Additionally, you will have undertaken a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant or equivalent area and be able to provide specialist technical support predominantly in the civil engineering laboratories but also in the general engineering science laboratories.
Strong organisational skills will be essential with additional surveying and or manufacturing skills also being highly desirable.
