Salary:

Research Associate: £44,105 - £51,485 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance;

Research Fellow: £52,874 - £55,694 per annum, including London Weighting Allowance.

About us

This post will be based in the Health Psychology Section, Department of Psychology, embedded within a team which brings together expertise in long-term condition (LTC) management, implementation, and intervention research. The post is hybrid, with mandatory office days and the option to work from home on other days. The Health Psychology Section has been influential in the evolution of Health Psychology as a discipline in the UK. We are internationally recognised for excellence in research and teaching, including:

  • Fundamental research to establish the psychosocial and neurological processes underlying adaptation to long-term conditions and the experience of symptoms.
  • Translational research testing the efficacy and effectiveness of theory-based psychological interventions for people with LTCs.
  • Development and evaluation of innovative methods for supporting self-management of health, symptoms, mood and adherence, including digital interventions.
  • Delivering two courses; the MSc in Health Psychology and the IAPT LTC top-up training.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Research Associate

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in psychology, health services research or related discipline (awarded or close to completion)
  2. Effective project management skills
  3. Experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  4. Experience of conducting research in NHS settings including gaining the necessary research approvals
  5. Outstanding communication and organisation skills
  6. Ability to work autonomously and lead on tasks where appropriate
  7. Evidence of publication in internationally peer reviewed journals.
  8. Experience of data input, data cleaning and data management

Desirable criteria

  1. PhD or Stage II training in health psychology
  2. Knowledge of implementation science
  3. Knowledge of developing fidelity checks in interventional research
  4. Knowledge of fatigue in long term physical health conditions
  5. Knowledge of multiple sclerosis
  6. Knowledge of healthcare professional training

Research Fellow

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in psychology, health services research or related discipline
  2. Research experience at Postdoctoral level.
  3. Effective project management skills
  4. Experience of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  5. Postdoctoral experience conducting research in healthcare settings including gaining the necessary research approvals
  6. Outstanding communication and organisation skills
  7. Ability to work autonomously and lead on tasks where appropriate, including ability to supervise the work of others
  8. A good publication record commensurate with level of career
  9. Evidence of ability to attract grant funding
  10. Experience of data input, data cleaning and data management

Desirable criteria

  1. PhD or Stage II training in health psychology
  2. Excellent knowledge of implementation science
  3. Knowledge of developing fidelity checks in interventional research
  4. Knowledge of fatigue in long term physical health conditions
  5. Knowledge of multiple sclerosis
  6. Knowledge of healthcare professional training

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate & the salary will increase to Grade 6.
