About the role

The Joshi Lab at Peninsula Dental School, University of Plymouth has an exciting opportunity for a skilled Research Assistant interested in working with antibiotic resistant pathogens using molecular microbiology methods.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated scientist who will be responsible for the research and delivery of industry-funded projects ranging from antibiotic resistance to biocide validation of pathogens.

You will be experienced in bacterial microbiology, preferably bacterial sequencing techniques, and antibiotic susceptibility testing. You will be able to meet deadlines and analyse data.The projects will give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop new research skills through working with within an interdisciplinary team and industry partners (SMEs). You will be based at the North Campus at the Derriford Research Facility.

This is a part-time position, actual hours to be confirmed, fixed-term for a period 12 months with possibility of extension depending on funding.

What we’re looking for:

You must have a PhD or MSc in a relevant discipline. Experience and knowledge in the field of molecular microbiology and antibiotic resistance is essential. You are expected to have excellent communication and scientific report writing skills. Experience with scientific writing, bacterial sequencing and microbial genomics is highly desirable. You should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
