Fixed Term Contract for 30 months
Full time starting salary is £30,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependent upon qualifications and experience (38 hours per week), plus £5,000 personal development budget
Location: EWB Solutions Ltd., Kings Langley (Unit-4 Kingley Park, WD4 8GW).
We welcome applications from passionate, self-motivated, skilled, and committed team players to join Cranfield University and EWB Solutions in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) advancing the manufacture of metallic bellows for vacuum-operated equipment.
This role as Specialist Welding Engineer (KTP Associate) is part of a collaboration between EWB Solutions Ltd, specialists in edge-welded bellows, and Cranfield University. The project will drive EWB’s transition to precision engineering and lean manufacturing, using statistical and analytical methods to modernize production processes.
Key goals include enhancing repeatability, reducing scrap rates by 10%, and cutting lead times by 60%. Working with Cranfield’s Welding and Additive Manufacturing Centre to optimize Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and plasma welding for bellows manufacture while exploring disruptive technologies.

Your role will be to embed new knowledge and capability in specialist welding processes, precision engineering and lean manufacturing. Details of EWB Solutions can be found here.
About You
A minimum 2:1 degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering (or a related discipline) is required. A Master’s and/or PhD is desirable but not essential.
This role requires knowledge of the following areas:
Industrial or manufacturing experience and familiarity with lean methodologies are desirable. Strong project management, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
The role involves experimentation, testing, and characterization, requiring time at Cranfield University and occasional travel. KTP projects offer additional funding for transferable skills training to develop future leaders.

Working Arrangements
This job role would require the candidate to work onsite at EWB works or for some specific need at the Cranfield University. Working remotely will only be feasible at the time of report writing or data analysis.
Eligibility
An individual currently or previously employed by EWB Solutions Ltd or someone who has already been a KTP Associate is not eligible for this role.
