Senior Lecturer / Lecturer

Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the School of Computing and Data Science, (Ref.: 530547), to commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, and the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

The School of Computing and Data Science, HKU

The School of Computing and Data Science (CDS) at the University of Hong Kong (cds.hku.hk) is a newly established interdisciplinary School on 1 July, 2024, formed by combining the Department of Computer Science from the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science from the Faculty of Science. CDS aims to integrate and enhance education programmes in HKU related to computing and data science, artificial intelligence, statistical decision sciences, fintech, and actuarial science. We are currently inviting applications for three Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join the School. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about teaching, knowledge exchange, and curriculum development. Whether you are an experienced industry practitioner with professional qualifications or an academic seeking to drive innovation, these positions offer a unique opportunity for growth and impact.

The Role

  • Design and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with special interest on the following areas:
    • Security / digital forensics;
    • ⁠Data science and AI;
    • ⁠Software engineering;
    • ⁠Systems;
    • ⁠Law for computing and AI; and
    • Algorithms and game theory.
  • Supervise final year projects and capstone projects, provide mentorship and academic guidance to students;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop or enhance the curriculum, and promote interdisciplinary learning;
  • Participate in teaching and learning activities organized by School and University; and
  • Engage in knowledge exchange activities, connecting industry and public.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent professional qualifications;
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching computer science-related subjects;
  • Effective communication skills and a drive for academic growth and innovation; and
  • Ability to bridge theory and practice by engaging with industry practitioners and academic peers.

What We Offer

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
