The Head of SEER will lead and oversee the operations of the SEER service, consolidating practice and its membership base whilst also contributing to the ongoing development of SEER services and growth of the SEER membership base.
They will be responsible for the operational oversight and leadership of an effective, efficient organisation that can deliver its mission across its membership base.
This role requires a motivated person capable of working flexibly and independently in a fast-paced dynamic environment, with initiative and drive to ensure the effective operation of a successful organisation.
The Head should have a firm belief in the value of data-driven, evidence-based policy and practice, and experience of working with a range of data, evaluation and monitoring, preferably in the higher education sector. They need to apply their experience and capability to developing our team, to meeting the challenges of consolidating SEER practice, and to ensuring continuous improvement in line with our quality and consistency objectives. As well as managing the SEER Evaluation Officers, the Head has access to a bank of Research Assistants and Data Analyst Support to help with analysis and reporting and to deliver our services.
The Head will contribute to and lead service delivery for a caseload of members as well as undertake overall SEER leadership, including contributing to developing the offer and services and welcoming new members. They need to keep up to date with policy and regulation, as well as practices in effective evaluation, research and data analysis. Operationally, the role includes liaising with SEER members, sourcing, analysing and reporting on a range of data across various evaluation or research projects. Data may include members’ internal information, institution specific data from external sources and sector datasets. Evaluation and research projects will require development and delivery.
Evaluation and data analysis will support member institutions with identifying gaps and/or achievements in outcomes in respect of access and participation. SEER reporting includes a range of recommendations to develop or improve practice, which need to be effectively communicated to members. The Head will have experience of analysing and reporting on institutional data and preparing reports and recommendations for a variety of audiences. They will be proactive and self-directing with a flexible approach to work and a record of successful delivery against tight time scales. They will have experience of liaison, effective communication and identifying and understanding client support needs and working with a range of stakeholders. A proven ability to develop and build effective analysis tools is also required.
The Head of SEER may also contribute to or lead other research and evaluation projects and special projects, as part of the Applied Inspiration service. These will generally be linked with the work being undertaken in SEER and would add value / practices to the SEER service.
