We seek a talented scientist for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Assistant/Associate Professor) position in Genomic Medicine. We are especially interested in researchers with a program of work focused on the mechanistic characterisation of genetic disorders with a goal towards therapeutic development. The post-holder will have access to an outstanding academic environment in Manchester and will be expected to develop their own independent research programme.
There will be opportunities to closely collaborate with internationally-leading clinician scientists within the Division whose areas of interest include developmental disorders, neurogenetic/neurometabolic conditions and ophthalmic genetic disorders. There will also be close links with the Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, one of the largest Clinical Genetics centres in the world, and with major research initiatives including the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre and the Manchester Rare Conditions Centre.
Genetic research in our Division is supported by cutting-edge experimental and computational core facilities, including genome editing, bioimaging and bioinformatics. We have an excellent track-record of high-impact research and grant-funding success, and a research culture that nurtures early-career researchers. All applicants should hold a PhD in Genetics (or a related discipline) and must be able to demonstrate proven track records in publication and competitive strategies for generating research income; we particularly welcome applicants with independent fellowships.
The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of teaching in the general area of Genetics and Genomic Medicine by preparing and giving lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops as well as by undertaking any associated management and administrative duties. The role will include developing and marking assessments and providing feedback to students to support academic and personal progress.
The position is available from January 1, 2025.
