About the Role

This research project, funded by the British Skin Foundation, will focus on exploring the regenerative potential of the oral mucosa compared to skin. The role involves using advanced techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to understand tissue regeneration, alongside both in vitro and in vivo models. The key duties include contributing to the overall scientific work within the lab, preparing reports for the British Skin Foundation, writing and contributing to peer-reviewed publications, conducting data collection and analysis, maintaining accurate records, and engaging in collaborative research with internal and external partners.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess a MSc in Biochemistry / Biotechnology with a PhD degree (or finishing a PhD) in non-clinical Dentistry, with significant experience in molecular biology techniques, particularly single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics. They should demonstrate a strong understanding of oral or skin tissue biology, experience in conducting in vitro and in vivo studies, and have a track record of contributing to high-quality research publications. Key skills include the ability to work collaboratively within a research team, excellent organisational skills, and strong written and verbal communication for report preparation and publication writing. Knowledge of relevant policies such as data protection and health and safety regulations, as well as experience in maintaining confidential research data, is essential.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The project is based at the Institute of Dentistry and the Barts Centre for Squamous Cancer at Queen Mary University of London, part of the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The Institute is a world leader in research and education in oral and dental sciences, with a particular focus on cancer biology, tissue regeneration, and molecular pathology. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Inês Sequeira, contributing to cutting-edge research in a dynamic and collaborative environment that aims to advance our understanding of tissue regeneration in oral and skin biology.
