The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL) seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (Grade 11) in Medieval Italian Literature and Culture from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The appointment may be made at any grade between Assistant Professor (Grade 9), Associate Professor (Grade 10) and Professor (Grade 11). Applications are welcome at all levels, and the eventual grade of appointment will be commensurate to the appointee's experience and standing in the field.

Candidates will have a record of, or clear potential for, outstanding research in Italian Medieval Literature and Culture, along with a broad-based knowledge of the current state of Italian literary and cultural studies and Medieval studies. We welcome candidates whose research and/or teaching demonstrate the potential for collaborative or cross-disciplinary work.

The appointee will contribute at undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MPhil and PhD) levels to the teaching and examining of Medieval Italian Literature and Culture, and generally contribute to teaching and administration of the Italian Section and the Faculty.

The teaching of Italian Medieval Literature has a long and distinguished history at Cambridge, and the appointee will be expected to take an active and leading role in sustaining and re-imagining-according to their own specialist area(s) of research-this history.

The role includes an active contribution to the administration of the Section's and Faculty's activities. We welcome applicants with a record of excellence in research, commensurate with career stage, and a strong trajectory.

Candidates will have relevant teaching experience, have successfully completed a PhD in a relevant field, collegial engagement or potential in research, teaching, administration and outreach in Italian Studies. A fluent or near-fluent command of both Italian and English is essential.

The appointee will undertake core teaching and supervision, as well as and teaching and supervision underpinned by research in their own field.
