Applications are invited for a Data Manager to join the Genomics and Bioinformatics Core (GBC) within the Institute of Metabolic Science & Metabolic Research Laboratories at the Clinical School, University of Cambridge.

The GBC provides analytical and data management support to research groups within the Metabolic Research Laboratories (MRL) and covers aspects of genomics such as genome sequencing and single-cell approaches, in addition to broader data integration efforts across multiple types of 'omics data. This specific role provides management oversight and training in all data management activities in the GBC.

This role has two main purposes:   

  • Ensures that the data emerging from the institute is handled, processed and stored appropriately, with a particular focus on ensuring the proper handling and storage of sensitive human clinical and other participant identifiable data. The technical leadership involves supporting projects across a range of different scientific groups, collaborating with teams to deliver data services that support various areas of genomics and functional genomics research. The technology and regulatory framework in this area moves rapidly, and the role holder will provide the necessary technical direction to develop and execute a long-term strategy for collecting, managing, storage and transfer of data.
  • Leads on training institute investigators on 'Data FAIRification', ensuring data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. This is a major pillar in our Wellcome funded 'Discovery Research Platform', which funds the GBC.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2030 in the first instance.
