Carmarthen Campus (with a requirement to frequently work across other campuses)

37 hours per week, working a Rota basis covering 24/7

We are now looking for a Site Operative to join the University on a full time, permanent basis, working 37 hours over 7 days a week.

THE ROLE

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining the security of UWTSD premises and the environment. In addition, depending on Rota and need, they will be expected to carry out caretaking duties, portering, and minor maintenance, as well as other general duties required by the role.

ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Good general level of education
  • Valid full driving license. Due to the base being Carmarthen but the work being across the sites, the individual must be able to drive between Carmarthen and Lampeter and Swansea. These posts have to carry equipment between these sites and there is no regular public transport that would be suitable.
  • Willingness to undertake first-aid certificate training
  • Previous experience in providing grounds and minor maintenance service
  • Ability to identify potential risks and undertake risk assessments
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to demonstrate effective organisational skills
  • Ability to apply attention to detail
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Good IT skills (training will be given on University systems)
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to work unsupervised
  • Able to work as part of a team and in partnership with others
  • Recognises the need for and demonstrates appropriate confidentiality
  • Able and prepared to work flexibly, including travel between campuses and locations when required

It would also be beneficial if you have: 

  • Valid first aid certification
  • Previous experience of working in Higher Education
  • Previous experience of providing security services in a similar environment
  • Previous experience of switch board service
  • Understanding of a Planned Preventative Maintenance
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh – oral and written
