The first new School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland for 150 years.

Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) has developed an innovative new School of Veterinary Medicine. We have a clear ambition to ‘promote the resilience of our graduates to sustainably support the animals and rural communities at the heart of Scotland’s Natural Economy’.

This is a ground-breaking model to expand access to educational opportunities and broaden the range of potential students who would not ordinarily be able to attend a School of Veterinary Medicine. It will also help solve existing skills shortages across Scotland’.

The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Applied Production Animal Health and Welfare in the School of Veterinary Medicine based at the SRUC Aberdeen Campus. The main purpose of this post is to have a significant contribution to the continued development and delivery of the HND in Rural Animal Health. The programme aims to train the veterinary technicians of tomorrow and it also facilitates a key gateway programme to our BVSci programme; however, teaching within the BVSci and other allied veterinary programmes will also be required in line with the business needs of the school.

Applications are invited from highly motivated individuals with significant experience (including practical or clinical) of the large animal industries (production animal and equine), including the rural veterinary and agricultural sectors.

Applicants with an active interest in delivery of teaching and research in areas of allied to large animal health and welfare (production animal and/or equid) are particularly welcomed. You will have the opportunity to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations and ambitions that will build on current strengths within the school, and across the institution.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications required, is a degree in veterinary medicine, animal sciences, agriculture/agricultural sciences or similar plus a PhD (or in final stages of PhD) in a relevant discipline, or for candidates with an MRCVS equivalent postgraduate qualifications or experience.  We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who are MRCVS.
