Role

Over the next few years, 2 million Universal Credit claimants will have their claims reviewed by the Department for Work & Pensions as part of the ‘Targeted Case Review’ programme. This post is part of a collaboration between the Welfare Benefits Unit and the Administrative Fairness Lab - funded by the Legal Education Foundation - to examine the roll out and claimant experiences of this Targeted Case Review process.

The Research Fellow will lead this project - responsibilities will include:

  • Lead research into claimant experiences of the DWP's Targeted Case Review programme, including designing and implementing appropriate research methodologies to capture the experiences of Universal Credit claimants undergoing review.
  • Analysing and evaluating the implementation and impact of the Targeted Case Review process, producing detailed research findings and recommendations for stakeholders including policymakers, legal professionals, and advocacy groups.
  • Build relationships with relevant organisations and stakeholders and disseminate findings effectively to both academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Develop research outputs that contribute to understanding how administrative justice operates in practice, particularly focusing on claimant experiences of welfare benefit review processes.
  • Provide expert legal analysis of emerging patterns and issues in the Targeted Case Review rollout to inform both academic discourse and practical policy implementation.
