MRC Unit The Gambia (MRCG) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a leading research centre in sub-Saharan Africa. Research is carried out by three major Research Themes (Disease Control & Elimination, Vaccines & Immunity, and Nutrition & Planetary Health) that benefit from the core‐supported strategic platforms and research services. Disease Control & Elimination investigates the interactions between hosts, pathogens, and vectors and evaluates interventions aimed at interrupting transmission and/or reducing the burden of diseases.

MRCG is a faculty of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Its mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide. MRCG works in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education, and knowledge translation into policy and practice.

The EDI Manager will deliver expert advice and guidance and develop and implement strategic policies, practices, and action plans to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across the whole Unit. The post holder will also provide training and organise conferences and other events to achieve the same aim. This is a key role within the Unit to ensure that EDI duties, aims, and objectives are met and that EDI support is embedded within the Unit.

The ideal candidate will have a university degree in a relevant subject area, evidence of having undergone relevant EDI-related training, and an in-depth knowledge of equality regulations, EDI trends and best practices, and their implementation in multifaceted organisational contexts. Significant experience of working in an equivalent or related role is also vital.

The appointment is for 2 years initially and will be subject to a probationary period of 6 months.

The salary will be paid in Grade 2a of MRCG at LSHTM’s pay scale at a minimum net monthly salary of 109,369.54 Dalasi. Using the prevailing Dalasi/USD exchange rate, this converts to a minimum take-home pay of approximately $1,561.53 per month.  Please note that the salary will be paid in Dalasi and that the USD figure quoted is only given as a guide.

For displaced staff, the package will also include rent-free furnished accommodation, flights, a displacement allowance for the staff member and their spouse and children, a contribution to school fees, and shipment of personal effects.
