Pending GMC approval, the University of Hertfordshire is planning to open a new Medical School with the first cohort of students starting in September 2026. This is a high-profile development involving senior healthcare professionals from NHS Trusts within Hertfordshire and the surrounding area and well as many internal departments within the University.

We have a core team already working on the project, with City St George’s Medical School, University of London, acting as our sponsor. We are now seeking an Administrator to work alongside the Project Manager to expand our team to develop and fully implement the MBBS programme. The University operates flexible working, with the successful post holder expected to be working on campus for the majority of the week.

Main duties and responsibilities

To provide comprehensive assistance and administrative support to the MBBS Programme project. The post holder will be expected to provide a strong customer-facing service to both senior internal and senior external healthcare professionals working in NHS Trusts. There will be instances when you will be the first point of contact for the Dean and Project Manager and EA to the Dean of the Medical School. This role requires a proactive approach and a need to display good attention to detail whilst demonstrating sound personal judgement when working with senior people. The successful candidate will be required to meet tight deadlines and deal with conflicting priorities.

Skills and experience required

You will have appropriate proven administrative experience in a complex and/or dynamic organisation. Experience of working in Higher Education administration is desirable. You will have excellent IT skills, be numerate and literate, with a good understanding of customer care and a confident, polite telephone manner. You will have good organisational skills, a methodical approach to working with attention to detail, and able to work accurately under pressure to tight deadlines autonomously and as part of a team.

Qualifications required

Educated with a minimum of A-levels or equivalent qualifications or proven professional work experience.

Please view the job description and person specification for a full list of the duties and essential criteria. Please attach a personal statement showing clearly how your skills and experience match the Person Specification.

We regret that we are unable to offer UKVI sponsorship for this post; applicants will either hold UK Right to Work, or demonstrate access to UK Right to Work, before an offer is made.
