The role

ESRC funded project: Dyadic Nostalgia in Couple Relationships

We invite applications for a Research Fellow to join a team of psychologists working on the project Dyadic Nostalgia in Couple Relationships (ES/Z503642/1; fixed term contract for 42 months). The project is funded by the Economic & Social Research Council and will explore the role, dynamics and potential uses of the emotion of nostalgia in romantic couple relationships. The project includes a programme of quantitative and qualitative studies as well as a suite of activities and outputs to engage the public & key stakeholders (e.g., charities and relationship therapists).  

Key Responsibilities

The post-holder will:

  • Conduct quantitative research with couples (e.g., surveys, daily diaries, experiments, behavioural observation).
  • Co-supervise graduate research assistants working on two qualitative studies
  • Collaborate with the team of investigators at the University of Surrey & University of Southampton
  • Liaise with non-academic project partners as part of the project’s Advisory Group and impact activities
  • Contribute to dissemination via international conferences, authorship on peer-reviewed publications, and public and stakeholder engagement

The post-holder will be based in the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey. The School of Psychology is a vibrant and welcoming community based on the beautiful Stag Hill campus in Guildford. The post-holder will be a member of the Social Psychology research group, which has expertise in social emotions, social equality, and relationships, and will collaborate with the Centre for Research on Self and Identity at the University of Southampton.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • A doctoral degree (or near completion) in psychology or a related discipline
  • Experience in a range of quantitative research methods
  • Strong statistical analysis skills
  • Good skills in organisation, attention to detail, ethics, communication, and a balance of working independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • A developing publication record commensurate with your level of career
