Applications are invited for a three-year post-doctoral fellow position to join Southampton's participation in a CERN led international collaboration on High Field Magnets (HFM). Our effort effort is led by Prof Yifeng Yang and based at the Institute of Cryogenics which has a long standing successful collaborations with CERN since the start of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). For this project, you will focus on (a) the development of insulated high temperature superconducting (HTS) windings/coils using REBCO conductors for high field magnets and (b) understanding/reduction of ac losses in HTS cables for high field accelerator magnets by experiments and modelling. Successful candidate is expected to have a recent PhD in applied/experimental physics or mechanical/electrical engineering, experiences in applied superconductivity and cryogenics would be advantageous.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
