The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva, Switzerland invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time position at the rank of
Assistant Professor of International History and Politics with a specialisation in Modern Environmental History and Politics
starting 1 September 2025 or on a mutually agreed-upon date.
Candidates must hold a PhD by the time of appointment. The Department of International History and Politics (IHP) is open to candidates with a wide variety of geographical, methodological, and conceptual approaches – as long as they can demonstrate research excellency, which is our cardinal hiring criterion. Candidates will also need to show how their work may contribute to research and teaching themes at the Institute in general and the IHP Department in particular. The IHP Department and the institute as a whole are interested in candidates who, while having a firm disciplinary grounding, are open to interdisciplinary dialogue.
The successful candidate will become a member of the IHP Department. They will do research, teach postgraduate courses, and supervise master’s dissertations and PhD theses in the IHP Department. They will also teach postgraduate courses and supervise master’s dissertations in the Institute’s interdisciplinary Master in International and Development Studies (MINT).
The teaching language at the Geneva Graduate Institute is English or French. A preliminary knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to rapidly acquire at least a passive knowledge of French.
