Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for teaching and research for the Optometry programmes. You will contribute to the design and delivery of learning and teaching materials (including assessments). You will work as an integral part of the optometry and the wider team and be expected to develop and implement innovative teaching methodologies, which promote interest and motivation amongst students.
For appointments at Senior Lecturer you will support the multidisciplinary, collaborative and inter-professional culture within the School, contribute to research and/or consultancy and/or other scholarly activity in a relevant field and contribute to the development of research objectives, project, proposals and external income generation/third stream funding and contribute to the development of ideas for disseminating and applying results of research and evidence-based practice.
Skills and experience required
Applicants must have experience in practice working in community, hospital or primary care with evidence of current clinical practice, with an awareness of current issues in health and optometry practice and include an inter-professional perspective. Individuals should be a source of knowledge of UK Optometric regulations and possess breadth or depth of specialist knowledge with an interest in various aspects of Optometry. Proficiency in English Language and IT skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
For the role of Senior Lecturer, you must have proven recent and relevant post qualification practical experience e.g. experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with the ability to use appropriate teaching, learning and assessment methods.
Qualifications required
For the role of Lecturer, you will hold a minimum of an honours degree in Optometry, Vision Science or related discipline. A minimum of two years current and continuous registration with General Optical Council as an Optometrist or significant proven experience within the field of UK Optometry is essential for both roles.
For the Senior Lecturer role, you will hold an honours degree or equivalent in Optometry, Vision Science or related discipline and a higher degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or a College of Optometrists' Higher Qualification or an Independent Prescribing Qualification.
