This is a hugely exciting time to join our communications team. In 2025 The University of Warwick turns 60 and we have ambitious plans to elevate our communications, media coverage and storytelling.
Our vision is for the University of Warwick to be a loved and respected global education brand recognised as a world class leader in education, research and innovation, locally, nationally and internationally.
Our Media and Communications Officers are at the front line of this vision as the University’s enthusiastic, dynamic and agile team of strategic story tellers.
We are looking for driven, experienced and skilled communicators with a passion for news and journalism in all its forms.
In this role you will be out speaking to our departments and academics, gathering information and stories to pitch to journalists and media outlets all over the world. You’ll ensure the University’s excellence in research, teaching, innovation, community outreach and widening participation are highlighted to raise brand awareness and achieve maximum impact. Providing advice and using your initiative you will generate ideas to get important messages across.
You’ll monitor the wider news environment, seeking out and maximising opportunities for the university to be part of national and international news, as it happens. Handling media inquiries and working with stakeholders to get the University’s point of view across is a key part of this role.
Experienced in working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments you will have the ability to work flexibly, building strong relationships as you go.
Working collaboratively with colleagues within our marketing, creative communications, social media and internal communications teams you will advise, share opportunities, and help create news related content using social and digital media, as well as more traditional forms to communicate messages in the most effective way.
We regularly have journalists, photographers and film crews on campus, and you’ll be working closely with them to tell our stories. You’ll undertake liaison ensuring that every detail is considered, all parties are briefed effectively and all opportunities for multi-channel coverage are maximised.
Risk and reputation management is part of this role, so you need to have experience in this as well as a measured approach to this area.
At the heart of our university lies the imperative to search for answers to the world’s most complex questions, and to share the knowledge we gain so that, together, we contribute to creating a fairer, better world for all.
By joining Warwick, you’ll join a diverse, innovative, and globally connected community committed to igniting real-world progress regionally, nationally, and internationally.
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
