English Language/EAP Teacher

University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC)

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teaching up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (each teaching hour = 45mins)
  2. Teaching preparation and regular lesson planning meetings
  3. Assessment duties (standardization, marking, feedback, moderation activities)
  4. Participation in teaching seminars and professional development training
  5. Coordination and administrative work, such as course coordination, materials proofreading, and student enrollment support

Requirements

Essential

  1. Undergraduate degree or above (English language/Applied Linguistics/Education or related fields preferred)
  2. Any of the teaching qualifications (TeflI status:): Cambridge CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL (or equivalent, which includes assessed teaching practice)
  3. Ideally a minimum of 2 years’ relevant teaching experience, preferably in an EAP context
  4. Organizational, communication and inter-personal skills, ability to work under pressure, ability to lead and work well in teams

Desirable

  1. TeflQ status: Cambridge DELTA, Trinity Dip TESOL (or equivalent) and/or relevant Masters (eg ELT/ TESOL/Applied Linguistics)
  2. Experience of teaching EAP for engineering/STEM undergraduates
  3. Ability to use ICT effectively, including use of a virtual learning environment (e.g. Moodle)

* Available to be on board by February.

Compensation and Benefits

  1. Successful candidates will be offered a monthly salary starting from 18,000 RMB before tax. Specific salary will be dependent upon professional and academic qualifications and relevant work experience.
  2. An annual travel allowance of 12,000RMB (before tax), will be paid directly to your bank account every month.
  3. Assistance with obtaining a work permit and residence permit.
  4. Medical insurance within China.
  5. Annual physical examination, birthday cake card and gift boxes are available for major public holidays.
  6. Paid holidays.
  7. Performance-related salary increases.

Introduction

Glasgow College, UESTC is a joint Higher Educational institute, established in 2013 by University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and the University of Glasgow (UofG). The College offers dual undergraduate degrees in Electronic Information Engineering, Communications Engineering, and Microelectronics (fully taught and assessed in English).

Our English language (EL) provision is credit bearing and an integral part of the programme a. The EL programme currently delivers teaching to over 1300 undergraduate students in the first 2 academic years of their degree. The students study English for Academic Purposes (EAP), developing the skills required to undertake their degree programme in English. For teaching staff, we provide an integrated CPD programme designed and delivered by University of Glasgow teacher educators. We also offer opportunities in areas such as curriculum and syllabus development, materials writing, assessment work and teacher education.

We seek to recruit outstanding EAP teaching professionals to join us for course delivery and EL programme development.
