The Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC), University of Glasgow, has long been at the forefront of groundbreaking research, advancing our understanding of environmental, biological and geological science. As a globally recognised institution, SUERC plays a pivotal role in addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges through its multidisciplinary approach and state-of-the-art research capabilities.
We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Head of Operations at SUERC. This role is integral to the development and execution of SUERC's strategic vision, overseeing a wide range of activities that support our world-class research and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of professional services staff, ensuring the effective delivery of services that align with SUERC’s key strategic objectives. Reporting to the Deputy Director of SUERC, this position holds accountability for the coordination of strategic planning, policy development, resource allocation, and infrastructure management. The role also requires development of partnerships and close working with teams at the University of Glasgow.
As a key member of SUERC's leadership team, the Head of Operations will represent SUERC within the broader University of Glasgow community and external agencies, including the British Geological Survey and the National Environmental Research Council. The role will have direct management responsibility, driving improvement of operational practices at SUERC and improving alignment with the University of Glasgow practices and policies.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing research institutions today. They will bring leadership as well as a strong grasp of change and project management methodologies.
This role requires a visionary thinker who can adeptly manage complex operational challenges, navigate sensitive situations with diplomacy, and drive continuous improvement. The postholder will have a proven track record of leading professional teams, fostering service excellence, and implementing strategies that align with SUERC’s and the University of Glasgow mission, as well as those of the scientific community.
