English Language Instructor Position

Dalian Maritime University – Houston International Institute (HII)

The Houston International Institute (HII) at Dalian Maritime University (DMU) invites applications for English Language Instructor positions. The successful candidate will teach academic English to engineering students. DMU is one of China’s key universities listed under the national “Project 211” and “Double First-Class” University Plan. DMU is located in the Northeast of Dalian, China, a beautiful coastal city. The main languages of instruction at the university are Chinese and English.

HII is a Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run school between Dalian Maritime University (DMU) and the University of Houston (UH). HII introduces top teaching resources from the Cullen College of Engineering at UH, combined with DMU’s academic advantages on marine-related programs. HII offers three undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The Institute's mission is to cultivate innovative, talented maritime-focused engineers who can be successful in any global market.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching academic listening, speaking, reading, and writing at various levels in preparation for the Duolingo, TOEFL, or IELTS exam.
  • Contributing to the development of curricula, assessments, and teaching materials to ensure high standards of English language education
  • Actively participating in department meetings or program support activities as needed

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor degree or above in TESOL, TEFL, linguistics, applied linguistics, or a related field
  • Ideally minimum 3 years of experience teaching English at the college/university level
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: curriculum development, EAP, ESP for STEM, assessment, teacher training, academic writing and communication, English medium instruction, educational technology
  • Experience teaching abroad is highly desirable
  • For applicants with a doctorate degree, evidence of research publications in the field of English language education

Salary will be finally determined by the university based on level of qualifications and years of experience

Accommodation is provided: Apartment area of 80 m² (two bedrooms with one living room, kitchen and bathroom)

An international round-trip air ticket to your hometown

  • Insurance:

Group accident insurance within China provided (for serious injuries)
