Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE) (http://zje.intl.zju.edu.cn/) is established by two world-leading universities, Zhejiang University (2024 QS Ranking: 44) (https://www.zju.edu.cn/english/) and the University of Edinburgh (2024 QS Ranking: 22) (https://www.ed.ac.uk/), at the International Campus Zhejiang University in Haining, China. Building on the existing strengths of both, the Institute aims to foster collaborations in teaching and research, explore interdisciplinary research, and be committed to frontier basic and applied research in life sciences. ZJE has a core facility (composed of FACS core, imaging core, histology core, biochemistry core and bioinformatics core etc.) and a laboratory animal facility (up to 8000 cages) to provide strong research support. 

The Research Centres

ZJE has established several research centres with focused research directions to facilitate undergraduate research training and graduate student training and encourage scientific discussion, collaboration, seminars within each research centre. Currently we have 5 research centres.

  1. Centre for Cellular Biology and Signalling (CBS)
  2. Centre for Regeneration and Cell Therapy (RCT)
  3. Centre for Biomedical Systems and Informatics (BSI)
  4. Centre for Infection Immunity and Cancer (IIC)
  5. Biomedical Health and Translational Research Centre (BHTRC) 

The Opportunities

ZJE wishes to appoint academic staff in any rank to support and develop teaching and research. The appointee will be expected to develop and maintain an independent research programme that complements research priorities across the Research Centres hosted in ZJE. 

The post requires a degree and a PhD in a subject relevant to Biomedical Sciences. Experience in teaching in a Higher Education Institution is a requirement. A knowledge of and interest in current approaches to tackling biomedical sciences research questions and to supporting biomedical teaching would be an advantage. Candidates with a strong record of research in infection and immunology, cancer biology and epigenetics, and biomedical informatics, particularly data science, computational and mathematical modelling and/or systems physiology are particularly encouraged to apply. Desired candidates should have a keen interest and commitment to training and mentoring the next generation of biomedical scientists from undergraduate through into postgraduate study. 

The contract of employment will be held with Zhejiang University. Tenure-track contract is for six years, subject to a satisfactory formal review at the end of year five. It is intended that the post-holder will then move to a standard University academic open-ended contract at the end of year six. 

The requirement for each rank is as follows:

Full Professor: Individuals are expected to have experience as Associate professor or above in world-renowned institutions and have the ability to lead the development in their disciplines.

Associate Professor: Individuals are expected to have experience as Assistant professor or above in world-renowned institutions.

Assistant Professor: Individuals are expected to have at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience and show academic potential. 

Remuneration and Benefits

Annual salary for assistant professor starts from RMB 400,000, and annual salary for associate professor starts from RMB 500,000. Generous start-up fund and ample lab and office space will be available. Relocation allowance will be available.
