About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled fundraising professional to join the University of Sussex’s high-performing Development & Alumni Relations Team, with a new University strategy and case for support soon to be launched.
As Development Manager (Individual Giving) you will be responsible for devising and implementing strategies for recruiting, stewarding, retaining and expanding the pool of low- to mid-level donors to the University via the Sussex Fund, and to Brighton & Sussex Medical School. You will act as secretary to the Sussex Fund Disbursement Committee and liaise with beneficiaries across the University to monitor and share stories of the impact of donations to the Sussex Fund.
A key member of the Alumni and Supporter Engagement management team, you will work closely with colleagues in alumni relations and development operations to deliver targeted and impactful multi-channel fundraising campaigns and ensure that donors have a positive and rewarding experience when giving to Sussex and regularly liaise with other fundraisers to maximise donor impact.
You will also be responsible for promoting planned giving primarily among alumni, by cultivating and stewarding the growing community of legacy pledgers and intenders.
About you
With a track record of creating and delivering original, engaging and impactful multi-channel fundraising campaigns, you will be a results-driven, excellent communicator with an understanding of database segmentation and analysis, and the importance of making your supporters feel valued and informed of the impact of their donations.
You will be self-motivated, with the skills to manage your own workload, while also having an enthusiasm for working collaboratively across workstreams in order to achieve the best results for the University and our stakeholders.
You will be experienced in employing a broad range of mass marketing techniques and tactics for fundraising purposes, including direct mail, email, social media and events. You will possess a good knowledge of best practice and relevant regulations and compliance requirements in your field, including data protection regulations, guidance from the Fundraising Regulator and PCI compliance.
Confident in managing relationships and negotiating with third party suppliers, you will be experienced in ensuring that they deliver on time, on budget and to agreed quality standards.
