We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the UKRI-funded Land Use for Net Zero project Rapid Engagement with Stressed Peatland Environments and Communities in Transformation “RESPECT” (PI – Prof Jill Robbie), Work Package 2: Social Capacities for Peatland Transformations. You would be part of a team of PDRAs, based mainly at the University of Glasgow. The position is based in Glasgow, working with Dr Katherine Simpson (line manager) and Professor Nick Hanley.
Our project aims to produce new thinking and transdisciplinary research outputs to facilitate landholders to undertake peatland restoration on agricultural land and reduce carbon emissions through land use change. This post contributes to the research on landholders’ motivations to engage in peatland restoration and the development of an ecological-economic modelling framework to simulate landholder decision-making at the farm-scale. The post involves development and running of a land-use agent-based model; development, application and analysis of two stated preference choice experiments and co-working across multiple disciplines including law & policy, arts & humanities and geo-sciences. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.
Candidates should be qualified to Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD] in a relevant field, such as economics, ecology, environmental science or statistics; or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role[s].
This post is full time and is fixed term until 31 July 2027 (with a possibility of further extension of 5 months)
Please contact Dr. Katherine Simpson (Katherine.simpson@glasgow.ac.uk) for further information on this project and position.
