Research Associate

This post is full time, and has funding for up to 14 months.

The James Watt School of Engineering is looking for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to a project ‘Biofilter Build’ towards a sustainable drinking water future working with the Water and Environment research group with Prof Cindy Smith, Dr Marta Vignola and Scottish Water.  The aim of this exciting project is to translate our research findings on biofiltration to build, operate and monitor a prototype point-of-entry drinking water treatment system based on biofiltration.

The successful candidate will work within the larger Decentralised Water Treatment project (https://www.offgridwater.org.uk/) with a vision to deliver decentralised water and wastewater biological treatment compatible with a global net-zero carbon and sustainable economy. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in sustainable water solutions, water quality and expertise in Civil/Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science/Microbiology or similar.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.
