About the role:
We are looking for a Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer to join our Student Services Department based at Bedford College. As a Mental Health and Wellbeing Officer you will play a pivotal role in the success of our students by:
Providing a high quality student intervention provision to address the mental wellbeing of students to improve social, emotional and mental health outcomes for students and for students to thrive in College life
Supporting students by offering a range of approaches, including delivery methods such as group and 1:1 sessions and creating bite-size sessions on mental health self-help tips
Planning and managing caseload effectively, making sure that clients are prioritised appropriately and seen in a timely manner.
Working on a one to one or group basis, with students who are potentially vulnerable or experiencing difficulties in order to help them to resolve their problems and continue with their education through a programme of one to one guided self-help sessions, drop-ins and group work
Taking a proactive approach to embedding wellbeing and mental health resilience into the student experience through delivering workshops and resources that support students in developing a mindful approach to studying
Developing and delivering resources (including training) for student/staff/parents/carers to use in relation to mental health and wellbeing
Maintaining information and resources relating to Health and Wellbeing, and ensure that it is accessible to students, both hard copy and online
Working with staff, families and local services to understand the mental health and wellbeing issues that could be impacting on behaviour and attendance to improve outcomes for students, and ensure that all College policies reflect this and students’ needs are being met
About you:
A relevant professional qualification in Social Work, Counselling, or Youth & Community Work (at graduate level)
Further therapeutic training or qualification in working with children and young people
Recent experience of working successfully with young people and adults in a mental wellbeing / early help capacity for a minimum of 2 years
Experience in providing effective short-term and long-term support to young people who are under stress/have mental health difficulties
Experience of developing resources or delivering training to young people and staff
Experience of developing a project including overseeing operational elements and demonstrating the impact of the service
