The Institute for Academic Development are looking for an experienced and self-directed events management professional to support the Future Leaders Fellows Development Network.

The Future Leaders Fellows Development Network is funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The network will support over 500 future leaders and early career researchers and innovators to form cohorts, develop leadership and engage with the UKRI. The Network is based in 9 industrial and Higher Education Institutions (University of Edinburgh, Cardiff University, Queen’s University Belfast, University of Leeds, School of Advanced Study University of London, Vertical Future, University of Cambridge, University of Glasgow, University College London) as well as additional external partners who support the delivery of our network activities.

The Events Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless planning, organisation, and execution of both online and UK-wide in-person events, as well as enhancement activities, essential to the Future Leaders Fellows Development Network. The post-holder will need to exhibit initiative, exceptional organisational abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, ensuring the delivery of high-quality events that support the long-term development of research leadership cohorts across the UK. Additionally, the post-holder will provide support to the Fellows and other stakeholders of the project when required to ensure the operational efficiency of the project.

The role will require some UK travel in support of network activity and events (typically one to two trips per month, spread unevenly across the year).

This post is currently based in the Institute for Academic Development. We operate under a hybrid working policy (hybrid working on a non-contractual basis, that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working). FLFDN team members are required to be on campus one or two days a week.

The Institute for Academic Development is located in Edinburgh’s beautiful Old Town. We are a medium-sized support service department of 45–50 staff based in a modern University complex, just off Holyrood Road. We are just a 5-10 minute walk from the central Waverley train station and Princes Street area, thus have excellent bus and train link access.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent level qualifications plus relevant work experience OR Substantial relevant work experience acquired through a combination of job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding relevant work/roles
  • Experience of event management or of supporting and facilitating small group teaching events
  • Experience of devising, planning and progressing work activities using own initiative and independent judgement without resource to senior colleagues
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills and experience of successfully managing a complex range of activities with competing priorities
  • Proven experience of customer-facing roles, with excellent feedback from clients and supervisors
  • Experience of working flexibly, adapting activities and successfully responding to changes when required
