We are excited to be growing and developing support services within Aston University’s Student Life directorate. Student Life is comprised of multiple teams which deliver a wide range of assistance to university students – information, advice, guidance, counselling, disability support, wellbeing, spiritual support, etc - across Aston University physical and digital campuses. The Assistive Technology Office post sits within the Disability & Neurodiversity Support team in the Student Life directorate, which plays a key role in creating an inclusive community for all students.
The Assistive Technology Officer has two main functions. The first is the assistive technology aspect, providing advice, guidance and initial training with common assistive software and in-built accessibility options. The other aspect of the role handles the recruitment, training, and coordination of Aston's in-house non-medical helpers, such as sighted guides and notetakers. Each function comprises approximately 50% of the role when averaged over the year, although at certain times of the year there would be a higher focus on one function.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in other teams to develop and deliver training, as well as increase student confidence and independence. They will also contribute to wider service and university goals and initiatives.
Joining our team will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work in an exciting and diverse educational setting, helping students along their journey as they cope with the wide range of academic and social challenges that they may experience whilst studying.
The salary being offered for this role is below the minimum threshold for required to sponsor new applicants to the Skilled Worker route. However, Aston University may be able to sponsor the successful candidate if they:
