The School of Law seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Commercial Law at Grade 7 or 8, who will undertake research of international excellence and contribute to knowledge exchange activities relative to the discipline, contribute to learning and teaching on agreed programmes and undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/Colleges strategic objectives. The successful candidate will contribute in particular to the delivery, teaching and development of commercial law of the UK, EU and US at both undergraduate and masters level.
A core element of the role will be to teach Commercial Law across the LLB (Scots Law and Common Law) and LLM programmes. These subjects are spread across the curriculum at different levels and in various configurations linking to broader themes in contract, property, corporate law and financial regulation. While ability and willingness to teach on core courses on the Scots Law and Common Law programmes is essential, we welcome applicants from a range of jurisdictions. There are likely to be opportunities to adapt some of our courses to fit expertise and to design new courses.
The successful applicant will work closely within a vibrant and substantial community of commercial law researchers, with broad interests ranging across the full spectrum of commercial law and be part of the Corporate and Financial Law Research Group. In addition to the well-established interest in capital markets, financial regulation, corporate governance and corporate social responsibility, law and sustainable finance has emerged as a key focus in recent years, while we have also extended our expertise in insurance and insolvency. The diverse and international composition of our commercial law group offers links to policy-making and practice that can help to inform research and teaching.
The School of Law is ranked 43 amongst law schools globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. It is a centre for innovative world leading research and excellence in education. We are proud to be an international law school with a rich heritage. Law was one of the four original faculties established by the University upon its founding in 1451. The subject has been taught continuously since 1714.
