The Centre for Healthcare Science at the University of Essex - working in collaboration with NHS England East of England – is looking to recruit a Health Science lecturer in the field of Life Science and Diagnostic Pathology. This post will be central to the development of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including the new BSc Biomedical Science Apprenticeship and the introduction of a Scientist Training Programme (STP), as well as identifying and designing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) modules, in diagnostic pathology that will be vital to supporting diagnostic services in these fields in the NHS. In addition to undergraduate and postgraduate course development work there will be an opportunity to work closely with the University’s Outreach Team and other outreach organisations around the East of England to inform and encourage young people to be interested in science and pathological sciences as careers in the NHS. This will include leading and participating in sessions with target schools and designing innovative events.
We are looking for a scientist who is committed, self-motivated, and has a passion for training and teaching, with a solid understanding and experience of working in diagnostic pathological sciences in the NHS at a Senior Scientist level (Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist) in one of the following life science specialisms: Haematology, Immunology, Biochemistry (Blood Sciences), Microbiology, Genomics, Histopathology, Histocompatibility. We are looking for enterprising and innovative approaches to the way the University can offer training for NHS diagnostic pathology scientists to enable them to provide their NHS services.
The role will allow you to work alongside a wide range of academics in the University from across all diagnostic pathology and life science disciplines. You will also have the opportunity to develop and work closely with local NHS trust training leads in diagnostic pathology to help to support the training of scientists.

The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to complement and continuously enhance the department/school’s education strengths and areas of planned development.
