Value:

  • Tuition fees - to the maximum of international PhD fees payable (in 2025, £22,000 a year)
  • An annual stipend (£19,237 per annum for 2024/25; TBC for 2025/26)

Specified use

This funding is available to an international student undertaking study in the theological understanding of the church’s mission, broadly understood.

The research areas supported by the Lincoln Theological Institute are the theological study of religion and society and theological research into a variety of ethical, pastoral, social and ecclesial issues. The successful candidate will be supervised by Prof. Peter Scott, Director of the Lincoln Theological Institute.

Tenable period

The award is tenable for 3.5 years from September 2025- covering the full PhD programme in PhD Religions and Theology, subject to satisfactory progress. The funding is available to PGRs undertaking full time study.

This funding is available to students undertaking study in:

  • Religions and Theology

Academic requirements

Any prospective international student with:

  • Bachelor's (Honours) degree at 2:1 or above (or overseas equivalent); and
  • Master's degree in Religions and Theology or a relevant subject – with an overall average of 65% or above, a minimum mark of 65% in your dissertation and no mark below 55% (or overseas equivalent)
  • Any strong, relevant work experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
