Role Summary
We are seeking to appoint a new senior clinical member of staff to join this successful programme at an exciting time when the MBChB curriculum and programme structure are under review.
The Deputy Lead for Year 3 of the MBChB programme is an important strategic role. The primary role of the Deputy Year Lead is to support the Year Lead to provide overall academic leadership for Year 3 and to take responsibility to ensure its content, structure, delivery and quality meet the requirements of the Programme and, where applicable, relevant trusts and general practices. Year 3 is a key year for students as it marks the transition from mainly pre-clinical activities to clinical education.
The post holder will also engage with the delivery of assessments and evaluations in accordance with the University’s Education Strategy. In particular the Deputy Year Lead will work with the Year Lead to manage the content of the rotations for Year 3, working with Specialty Leads who will develop content.
They will be involved in setting assessments and ensuring that delivery of teaching, clinical placements and assessments meets the GMC requirements.
They will be involved in the design, organization and delivery of Year 3 curriculum content, including individual modules and they will also assist in the teaching and arrangements for the hospital preparation course and the student selected experience elements associated with Year 3 of the programme.
They will meet with students who may need additional academic support and guidance; whose absence is greater than the permitted allowance; students who are required to re-sit summative assessments and those with unsatisfactory end of placement reviews.
They will attend the year management meetings and where possible other relevant meetings. They will work closely with the Year 3 Professional Services team.
