Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

You will manage the University Financial Assistance Fund, by reviewing the criteria of the fund, receiving, assessing and processing applications to the fund.  You’ll be assessing students’ immediate financial positions with a view to offer a discretionary short-term emergency or delayed Funding loan where appropriate and provide support and be a point of contact for vulnerable students.  Contact with students will be by email, telephone, MS teams and in person.

The Student Funding and Financial Support Officer will be required to provide tailored financial advice to students in line with their position with the Students Loan Company (SLC) and any financial support available to the student offered by the University and their position in terms of any tuition or accommodation fees owed to the University. You will develop and maintain specialist knowledge relating to all aspects of student funding for Home/EU students with an emphasis on SLC and NHS Learning Support Fund eligibility. You’ll develop and implement new workshops to be delivered by internal and external experts and develop and deliver a programme of annual events, including workshops, induction week, freshers fair and engagement activities specifically for National Student Money Week for students and appropriate staff.

Skills and experience required

You will have relevant experience with managing and distributing complex information, tailored advice and guidance to students or customers. Experience of working in Higher Education administration is desirable. Your application will evidence the ability to organise your own and others’ workload and to work effectively, accurately and calmly under pressure to meet deadlines. You’ll have good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with and present to colleagues at all levels, and the ability to communicate with, and support, students clearly.

You’ll be an advanced user level in IT systems such as Microsoft Office software and understand the interaction between various systems. You’ll be numerate and be able to write clearly and concisely with the ability to understand and interpret complex regulations. You will be required to work flexibly, being effective in a team setting. You’ll have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, processes and institutional culture and to be proactive in promoting change.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent professional qualification or relevant professional work experience.
