The role
Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued.
We are seeking to recruit an excellent academic to join our staff as Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Global Cultures and Futures, focused on the application of theory and ethnographic methods to address contemporary and near-future challenges facing local and global cultures. This might range from designing sustainable systems (e.g. health, food, and housing), to cultural adaptations to the climate emergency, or imagining energy, mobility or sociotechnical futures. The ideal candidate will bring ethnographic research experience to understanding the uncertainties and nuances of complex organisations, ecosystems and/or infrastructures. An interest in innovative and hybrid methodologies and the role of human-centred research in multidisciplinary teams and environments is important for this position. The Department of Anthropology is particularly interested in enlisting candidates with a specialism in the interactions between emerging and developed economies. The person appointed will have a proven record of research excellence appropriate to career stage and will be able to demonstrate teaching excellence.
The person appointed will be expected to make a strong contribution to the design and delivery of the teaching programme of the Department, with specific responsibilities to support the development and expansion of new Department of Anthropology Master of Arts programmes. The appointee will undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of MA and PhD students.
The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance, and generate publications of international standard.
